Mayor-in-waiting Athol Trollip has vowed to crackdown on corruption and to create jobs.
The Democratic Alliance (DA), the largest party in the metro, yesterday announced it had reached agreements with the United Democratic Movement, Freedom Front Plus, Congress of the People, African Christian Democratic Party and the Inkatha Freedom Party, to form a multi-party coalition government.
It will be the first time since the establishment of the unicity government in 1994 that the African National Congress (ANC) will not be in the seat of power in Port Elizabeth.
Trollip says he's not expecting many surprises and is confident the coalition will hold firm.
