POLITICAL NEWS - The Minister notes the latest allegations and rejects them with contempt.
“I categorically deny that I am in control of the Hawks and Public Protector in the province. Those are independent national government led institutions whom we respect. My record in local government speaks for itself. Thirteen clean audits and 27 unqualified audits out of 30 councils in the Western Cape is something I am proud of. In addition both my provincial departments also have clean audits.
"The political games played by the opposition ANC who could not manage a single clean audit when the ANC was in control of the Western Cape, is contemptable. To pull in innocent officials to further their own political ambitions is further contemptable.
"I stand by my department and my actions which have always been with one goal in mind, to improve the lives of every citizen of the Western Cape. Notwithstanding that the ANC had to rely on secretly recorded conversations, I welcome the disclosure insofar as the full recording only further reveals I have nothing to hide.
"Frankly, these allegations should be seen as further efforts by an ANC who are desperate to distract from the corruption of their party which people in the Western Cape are not blind to, given the continued decline in support for the ANC in the province.
"Unlike the ANC, we do not protect corrupt officials who steal from the poorest of the poor or provide our people with motorbike ambulances or steal money meant for official funerals. The list continues.”
