MOSSEL BAY POLITICAL NEWS - "Often politicians use the so-called clean audits that municipalities receive as a tool during elections to further a political agenda.
"I want to say it explicitly, though, it is not the politicians, it is not the councillors who are doing the hard work that ensures a good audit result from the Auditor- General. It is the result of the work of the municipal manager, the management of the municipality and the ordinary workers."
This was the reaction of Councillor Jovan Bruinders, the chairperson of the ANC provincial executive, during a special council meeting on Wednesday, 30 January, when the executive mayor, Alderman Harry Levendal, tabled the municipal annual report.
Councillor Bruinders said the ANC noted the findings of the Auditor-General and warned that his party will sensitise the community about the findings.
"The truth is that no executive councillor can any longer claim the accolade of a clean audit," he said.
