NATIONAL NEWS - On 8 June, South Africa’s Health Minister Zweli Mkhize confirmed that there are now 50 879 total positive cases of the novel coronavirus in the country.
The unfortunate milestone was paired with the announcements of deaths crossing the 1 000 mark having recorded 1 080 deaths in total.
82 new Covid 19 deaths were recorded over the last 24 hours with 55 of them from the Western Cape, 26 from the Eastern Cape, and 1 from Kwa Zulu Natal.
To date, 943 059 tests have been conducted and 26 099 patients have recorded from the virus, translating to a recovery rate of 51.3 per cent.
Total confirmed positive cases, deaths and recoveries for 8 June per province:
- Eastern Cape – 6 341 cases, 127 deaths and 2 666 recoveries
- Free State – 373 cases, 9 deaths and 152 recoveries
- Gauteng – 6 258 cases, 47 deaths and 2 428 recoveries
- KwaZulu Natal – 3 175 cases, 62 deaths and 1 378 recoveries
- Limpopo – 244 cases, 3 deaths and 158 recoveries
- Mpumalanga – 183 cases, 1 deaths and 102 recoveries
- North West – 580 cases, 1 deaths and 73 recoveries
- Northern Cape – 118 cases, 1 death and 41 recoveries
- Western Cape – 33 568 cases, 829 deaths and 19 101 recoveries
- Unknown – 39 cases
