NATIONAL NEWS - A community safety group in Ikageng, Potchefstroom handed over a large collection of guns and other dangerous weapons, they confiscated from criminals themselves, to the Potchefstroom police.
The move follows an outcry by residents who are terrorised by robbers and thieves, spurring the Peri Peri community safety group into action. The weapon handover took place on Thursday, 15 September.
He said that police will be working hand in hand with Peri Peri to ensure that illegal weapons are taken off the streets.
The president of the organisation, Lucky Lerefolo, emphasised the group’s commitment to keep the Ikageng community safe.
“We are prepared to go to prison for the safety of our community,” he said.
A community member Joyce Phetwe said it was every parent’s duty to teach their children right from wrong.
“We need to stop accepting stolen items and money that our children bring into our homes due to poverty,” she said.
“Let us do better as parents and contribute to a better society.”
