NATIONAL NEWS - A 12-year-old boy from Midoroni village in Limpopo had to be hospitalised for three days after he was attacked and bitten by a stray pig.
The incident happened recently when the pig escaped from its pen in a neighbour’s yard and ended up the yard of Ntshimane Phala.
Phala says he went out to chase the pig away, after which it became aggressive.
His son, Masilo Mabogo, ran out to assist, and the pig turned his attention to the boy.
Phala pelted the pig with rocks and it ran off, but by this point Masilo needed urgent medical attention after he sustained injuries to his legs and thumb.
He was admitted to the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital where he was kept under observation for a few days.
He was discharged and is currently recovering at home with his father saying it was a frightening experience he is unlikely to forget.
According to Phala his son is recovering well.
Phala has made a request for those living in the communities to ensure their animals are locked up, as children’s safety is non-negotiable.
“I am concerned about the children’s safety here at home. Next time something like this happens I will call in the authorities to have the animal removed.”
