Escaped lion finally caught

NATIONAL NEWS - SANParks has expressed relief following the recapturing of a 3-year old lion that escaped from the Karoo National Park more than three weeks ago.

The lion, nick-named Sylvester, reportedly killed 26 sheep and a kudu since its escape.

Sanparks' general manager for media relations, Ray Thakuli said, "We can confirm the lion has been re-captured Monday (yesterday) afternoon. It was spotted about 20km away from the park.

"Just after 17:00 we got a helicopter and the lion was darted by our vet. He was released into a boma last night and will be kept there for observation."
