The Western Cape is one of eight provinces that have been declared disaster zones due to the ongoing drought and water shortages.
The provincial Local Government Department is spending more than R5 million on drought relief in Oudtshoorn, Tulbagh, Ceres and two other towns.
It says it needs at least R60 million to support affected municipalities and farmers in the province.
Local Government MEC Anton Bredell says, "We are told that the national ANC government has no capacity to provide any funding for drought relief in the Western Cape."
