Nhleko and National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega are releasing the South African crime statistics for 2014/15 to Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Police.
The minister said contact-related crime was up by 1.9 percent and property-related crime down by 0.8 percent and other serious crime down 2.2 percent.
Contract crimes over period under review of 10 years has seen a 0.9 percent increase in contact crimes.
Nhleko says over past 10 years, other serious crimes decreased by 7.6 percent.
The minister says over past 10 years, property-related crimes decreased by 2.3 percent.
