Volunteers told Eyewitness News they’d rescued and treated rabbits suffering from starvation and neglect, and many were found dead in a pit at the park.
Park officials and volunteers met in Boksburg recently, where the collective decision was made to immediately close the park to allow for more assessments to take place.
The Ekurhuleni Municipality’s Themba Gadebe says the livestock have been cleared of diseases, but rabbits which are still sick will have to be put down.
