Community members are advised and warned to be vigilant and to check the Uber’s registration number as it appears on their cellphone before they get into it. This is after various posts were shared on social media which stated that a woman had her life turned upside down on the night of 6 July after getting into what she believed was her Uber outside Montecasino.
It was reported that the woman got into the car and, to her shock, there were two men lying down in the back of the vehicle. The woman was allegedly then tied up, locked in the boot, taken to an ATM and then assaulted and forced to withdraw money. She was taken to a veld in Tembisa and was allegedly raped and left for dead by the three men.
With her horrific experience, the woman wanted community members to be alert and aware of this in a bid to stop it from happening to somebody else.
Communications manager of Uber, Samantha Allenberg said, “This was a despicable crime and, first and foremost, our thoughts are with the victim and her family.
