NSRI said two employees of the Transvaal Yacht Club were working on a barge attending to yachts at moorings on the dam on Monday, when one of them “disappeared under the water”.
“While waiting for a service boat to collect them, one of the men attempted to swim to shore and got into difficulties while swimming and disappeared under water,” said NSRI in a statement released Wednesday.
NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam duty crew launched the sea rescue craft Afrox Rescuer II and the police and Harties ambulance services also responded to the distress call.
The search for the adult male reported to have disappeared under water began on Monday, but despite an extensive search no sign of the missing man has been found.
NSRI said the Police Dive Unit will continue it search operation on Wednesday.
Police have opened an investigation and a search operation will be continued by a Police Dive Unit.
