GEORGE NEWS - The bail application in the George Magistrate’s Court for the two men accused of murdering Cape Town underworld figure Mark Lifman (57) at the Garden Route Mall in George last year, was adjourned this afternoon, Thursday 16 January, until tomorrow.
Lifman was struck by five bullets in the parking lot of the Garden Route Mall while on his way to his vehicle, a blue Ford Raptor bakkie. He died at the scene.
He was allegedly visiting George to play golf with friends at Fancourt when he was gunned down.
As during their previous court appearance on 12 December, Johannes ‘Jakes’ Jacobs (53) and Gert ‘Johnny’ Bezuidenhout (37) were watched by a group of Lifman’s friends, including Jerome ‘Donkie’ Booysen, André Naudé, and Booysen’s son Joel.
At the end of today’s proceedings, as the courtroom emptied, Naudé taunted Bezuidenhout, saying, “Cheers, Johnny. Johnny sê bye. Johnny is ombeskof,” referring to his lack of response.
The courtroom was under tight security, with a strong police presence and heavily armed officers strategically positioned.
