Correctional services educate inmates on health and hygiene at Pollsmoor
NATIONAL NEWS - The Department of Correctional Services says it’s embarked on educational programmes around health and hygiene at Pollsmoor Prison.

The transfer of more than 4,000 Pollsmoor inmates to other facilities in the province is almost complete, in order for authorities to deal with a rat infestation.

Three inmates were recently bitten by rats.

One of them died after he was diagnosed with a highly infectious disease called Leptospirosis.

Incorrect waste disposal and overcrowding at the maximum security facility have been highlighted as two of the main factors that contributed to the infestation.
