NATIONAL NEWS - The chairperson of the parliamentary committee responsible for selecting Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's successor says she is "overwhelmed" by the public's response to the nomination process.

Makhosi Khoza says whittling down the list is not going to be an easy task because of the quality of candidates in the running to be the country’s next Public Protector.

Seventy-two people have been nominated for the job, which is more than double the candidates that Members of Parliament (MPs) had to choose from the last time the post was advertised.

Madonsela's seven-year, non-renewable term ends in October.
