Most of the improvements are focused on fresher aesthetics, but standard specifications have also been enhanced.
For the young and technological minded there is now Bluetooth connectivity in the GLS model as one of the standard features. The system allows connection with compatible devices such as mobile phones and also facilitates audio streaming from Smartphones and Bluetooth-enabled audio devices.
Another welcome addition is cruise control, which has also been added to GLS models. It can be activated by using switchgear, located on the steering wheel.
On the outside the most eye-catching update is the Swift's redesigned grille and a new bumper. GLS models benefit from the standard fitment of LED daytime running lights, while there is a new cooling aperture surround for the GL derivative.
In addition, the full wheel caps of the GL model have been redesigned, while the GLS sports a brand new alloy wheel design.
ECONOMY
The 2014 Swift keeps the same fuel-injected four-cylinder engine, which produces 70kW and 130Nm.
Fuel economy is a stand-out attribute across the Swift range, with the five-speed manual gearbox-equipped models claiming a combined-cycle consumption figure of just 5,5-litres per 100km, linked to CO² emissions of 132g/km.The GLS Automatic, with four forward gears at its disposal, posts a combined-cycle figure of 6,2-litres per 100km, with a commensurate CO² emissions rating of 147g/km.
The 2014 Suzuki Swift is available in two specification grades. The Swift GL boasts power stee-ring, plus height-adjustable steering wheel, electric windows front and rear, remote-controlled central locking for the doors and tailgate and air-conditioning.
Also on the list are electrically adjustable mirrors, a height-adjustable driver's seat and a multifunction trip computer that displays outside temperature, fuel consumption and driving range.
The rear seat offers 60/40-split folding capability, with a handy convenience hook on the rear passenger seat back for securing shopping bags. On the safety front, the GL features dual front airbags, as well as ABS anti-lock brakes.
CHOICE
The Swift GLS offers the choice of a manual or automatic gearbox and distinguishes itself visually through new 16" alloy wheels and the front fog lights. Inside, the GLS now adds the Bluetooth and cruise control, as well as a leather trimmed steering wheel adjustable for reach and height.
Safety standards are further enhanced by the standard fitment of dual front, side and curtain airbags.
Additional features include automatic climate control and a USB socket for playing music from flashdrives. A keyless operation system for star-ting and stopping, as well as unlocking and locking doors is also included.
The Swift Sport remains largely unchanged, retaining all previous exterior and interior features unique to this performance model. It also gets the cruise control and Bluetooth functionality introduced to the GLS.
The Sport uses a 1,6-litre fuel injected engine producing 100kW and 160Nm. The Sport's standard electronic stability control (ESC) optimises traction and safety, but can be switched off for those seeking an even racier driving experience.
