MOTORING NEWS - With the weather changing all round, drivers in our region may need a timely reminder on how to drive in misty conditions. Most South Africans drive too fast in misty or foggy conditions.
If you encounter mist or fog, reduce speed and expect that other drivers may be driving much slower than normal, or might not be correctly positioned on the road.
Avoid the use of high beams when driving in fog at night - the light will simply reflect back and blind you.
If the fog is so thick that you are forced to slow down to a crawl, fog lights can assist by penetrating under the blanket of fog. Remember they are only effective if you drive below 40km. If you feel it is too unsafe to continue driving, pull as far off the road as you can, to avoid being hit from behind by careless drivers, and keep your parking lights or sidelights on.
