MOTORING NEWS & VIDEO - The long awaited Opel Corsa GSi has arrived. I had the opportunity to test drive a yellow number the 3-door Corsa GSi.
First impression
The long-awaited Opel Corsa GSi has arrived. I had the opportunity to test drive a yellow number – the 3-door Corsa GSi. I was very impressed with the GSi's lines, sporty honeycomb grille and large air intake, focused looking head lights, touches of chrome throughout the vehicle through to the sexy rear spoiler.
The sculpted bonnet gives the impression of speed and the carbon side mirrors complete the picture. The red brake calipers and 18-inch alloy wheels artfully completes the exterior.
The whole package enhances the race like features of the Corsa GSi.
The Opel Corsa GSi has a surprisingly spacious boot with a drag reducing spoiler.
Interior
Looking at the interior, I was immediately in awe with its finish and quality. It is a mixture between sportiness and luxury. The GSi features leather cladding Recaro racing like seats. The seats are very comfortable and my body fitted comfortably in the body-hugging driver seat.
Standard in this vehicle is the sporty steering wheel, aluminium sport pedals and leather gearshift knob. The in-car connectivity comes in the form of Opel’s IntelliLink infotainment system. It also has standard air-con.

Engine
I was very impressed with the 1.4-liter Turbo charged 110kW and 220Nm engine. This four-cylinder engine is extremely responsive and fun to drive. I never felt any lack of power and experienced a constant readiness to go.
In combination with its six-speed gearbox this vehicle delivers outstanding punch in second and third gears.
This vehicle impresses with its ultra-precise OPC chassis which ensures great handling and short braking distances.
The Opel Corsa GSi comes with a 1.4-liter Turbo charged 110kW and 220Nm engine. This four-cylinder engine is extremely responsive and fun to drive. It also has an impressive combined fuel consumption of only 6.4 – 6.0-Literes / 100km. This makes it one of the lightest vehicles on the road.
This is surely a hot hatch. This vehicle is quick of the mark from 0-100km/h in only 8.9 seconds. This is very impressive for a 1.4-Litre vehicle. It also has a top speed of 207km/h.
Even though this vehicle is very sporty and nippy, it only uses 6.0L/100km which can go far with today’s high fuel prices.
Driving
I drove up the Outeniqua mountain with this Corsa GSi. Around the corners and turns the vehicle stuck to the road like glue and was fun to drive.
It never lacks any power and my drive was extremely pleasurable.

The Opel Corsa GSi borrows its Nurburgring-honed sports chassis from the Corsa OPC, and that ensures breath-taking and nimble cornering ability.
Fuel economy
For a engine that delivers this much oomph, it has an impressive combined fuel consumption of only 6.4 to 6.0 L/100km. This makes it one of the lightest vehicles on the road.
Warranty and Service plan
The Opel Corsa GSi comes standard with a 3 year / 120 000km warrantee or a service plan of 3 years / 60 000 km.
The interior is of a very high quality. The in-car connectivity comes in the form of Opel’s IntelliLink infotainment system.
Final impression
It is a lovely car. I will not purely describe the car as a sport car or racer alone. It can easily serve as your day to day commuter, but you will surely have the power when you need it. I would’ve liked 5-doors, but there is ample space on the back seat and in the boot.
If you make a Opel Corsa GSi yours, you do not have to stand back on power, luxury and looks. This vehicle is a head turner.
With a price tag of R365 900 the new Opel Corsa GSi promises to deliver a sophisticated, luxurious and sporty driving experience
