MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Western Cape Department of Human Settlements' Youth in Human Settlements Programme ensures young people in the Western Cape are presented with opportunities to upskill and empower themselves on an annual basis.
The programme focuses on experiential training in the built environment and targets those from 18 to 34 years old.
It includes accredited training, personal protective equipment and basic toolkits.
Forty-five young people, consisting of 15 for bricklaying, 15 for plastering and 15 for painting will also commence with their training at the Mountain View Housing project in Mossel Bay.
In Mossel Bay, five local youth contractors were appointed, while two of the five were also assisted to register their own companies.
The spokesperson for Human Settlements Minister Tertuis Simmers, Marcellino Martin, says that in the Western Cape 50% of the Human Settlements Develop-ment Grant (HSDG) is allocated to small, medium and micro enterprises.
