GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The radio station, Eden FM, is currently holding a superb competition opportunity for young women.
Organiser, Berenice Kogana Paulson, who is an Eden FM presenter, says: "The Miss Eden FM competition is not about a girl with a beautiful face, but a girl with a voice. We are searching for a voice for our youth."
Entries closed on Friday, 8 April, and the 12 semi-finalists have been chosen. Young women from towns including Mossel Bay, Knysna, Little Brak, Albertinia and George are among the 12. The competition is for 16 to 21 year olds.
Berenice says it is planned to make the competition an annual event, so those who did not enter can give it their best shot next year.
On 2 May, in George, the semi-finalists have their first workshop and they will receive their sashes. The workshop entails training in skills such as public speaking, building self confidence and marketing.
Event for youth
On 16 June, Youth Day, there will be an event for the youth in Mossel Bay and an introduction to the semi-finalists. They will each be interviewed by the judges before the show and receive pointers on how to give an interview and walk on stage.
From there, there will be online workshops with the contestants.
On 9 August, Women's Day, each of the contestants will host a charity event in their town and funding goes to an NPO of their choice.

This is an excellent opportunity for young women to support and promote charities and causes close to their heart, such as animal rights, anti gender-based violence, child protection, anti litter or pollution, environmental or marine conservation, protection of indigenous flora and fauna and NPOs which promote awareness of mental or physical illnesses. This list goes on.
Successful completion of charitable activities will add to the entrants' points.
The final crowning will be in the form of a gala evening in George on 10 September.
One of the prizes is one year of radio presenter's training and working as a guest presenter with experienced radio presenters.
