However, there are no snacks available during the long and tiring waiting time and final examination of the victims.
The centre facilitator supplies coffee, tea, milk and sugar, but often the victims come from as far as Ruiterbos and the rural areas, in the company of their parents or siblings. Some of the victims, after their trauma, must go to the police by 06:00 to make their statements.
They often end up waiting to be taken in for questioning and thereafter it is off to the rape crisis centre. This often happens only between 11:00 and 14:00 and they must undergo an examination process of up to two hours.
"We had 126 sexual abuse examinations during 2015/16. To ease victims' trauma, it would be lovely if we can supply them with snacks and drinks to help against the hunger pangs," says Sophia Myburgh, the centre facilitator.
Suggestions for children and adults:
- Niknaks or Simba chips
- Small packets of Cheddars or other savoury biscuits
- Small packets of Marie or other sweet biscuits
- Cup-a-soup
- 250ml long life juice
- 300ml long life sweetened milk
"We often keep babies and toddlers in hospital for safe care. In cases of physical neglect, there is a dire need for soap, face cloths and baby lotion. Any help will be welcome, even used baby and toddler clothes in good condition will be appreciated. We thank the community in advance for its care and goodwill towards the lesser fortunate and vulnerable children in our community."
