MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The greater Mossel Bay area boasts five Blue Flag beaches for the 2019/2020 summer season.
Mossel Bay Municipality is the only municipality on the Garden Route that received Blue Flag Beach Awards this year.
Also, the prestigious Glentana Beach, which was a Blue Flag pilot project last year, was awarded the coveted full Blue Flag beach status during an official function on Wednesday at the Waterfront in Cape Town.
Mossel Bay Municipality will soon announce the exact Blue Flag beach season, but in the meantime residents and holidaymakers can rest assured that Santos Beach, De Bakke, Hartenbosstrand and Little Brak River Beach can once again boast Blue Flag status.
The municipal portfolio chair for Planning and Economic Development, Alderman Cliffie Bayman, and director Carel Venter were in Cape Town when the Blue Flag awards were announced on Wednesday. An official flag ceremony is provisionally planned for early in December. The Blue Flag is a certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that a beach, marina, or sustainable boating tourism operator meets its stringent standards. Certificates, which FEE refers to as awards, are issued on an annual basis.
