Don't neglect pets

This is the urgent appeal from the Garden Route SPCA, comprising the Mossel Bay and George branches.
SPCA staff work right through the festive season, tending to the many animals neglected and abused during this period.
The Mossel Bay SPCA is in Bill Jeffery Avenue, KwaNonqaba. Take Louis Fourie Road and drive towards Cape Town. When the Mosselbaai Mall is on your left, turn right into Mossel Street. Then turn immediately left into Bill Jeffery Avenue. SPCA GPS co-ordinates: -34.18072800; 22.10061000.

The Garden Route SPCA management committee and volunteers thank all SPCA staff for their tireless dedication to and love for all animals.
Wendy Jones, GR SPCA publicity chief and committee member (volunteer), says: "Over Christmas and the New Year SPCA staff often must deal with pet owners who ignore or abuse their animals. The SPCA inspectors suffer verbal and even physical abuse from pet owners who drink too much alcohol."
Jones says: "To Garden Route SPCA manager Frieda Jansen van Rensburg, the vets and theatre staff, the invaluable inspectorate, the caring education unit, the super-friendly and resourceful administration and reception staff, the efficient kennel managers and kennel staff and cleaning staff - you are all extremely important.
"A big thank you to all of you."
Report animal abuse
The SPCA asks that the public be extra vigilant and report any animal abuse or neglect of pets. Be on the lookout for animals locked in hot cars or tied up in the sun.

If you would like to "give back" while you are on holiday, consider donating pet food to the SPCA or treating one or more of the hardworking staff with a generous Christmas present.
Also, Friday 22 December and Saturday 23 December are the last two days of the SPCA Christmas market in the banking mall on the ground floor within the Langeberg Mall in Voorbaai.
