MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The upgrade of Louis Fourie Road from the Mossel Bay town centre towards Hartenbos will likely take about 38 months and start on 22 July.
Mossel Bay Municipality apologises in advance for the anticipated inconvenience.
Various underground services, such as sewer lines and cables, need to be relocated and/or replaced, bridges need to be replaced or widened and double lanes in both directions, separated by a median, will eventually be established.
The project, implemented by the Western Cape Provincial Government, has been undertaken in consultation with Hatch Africa Consulting Engineers.
The exit off the N2 at the Langeberg Mall will be transformed into a circle to facilitate and ease traffic flow.
In some cases, work on sections of the project will be required after hours, when sections of the road are less busy.
Locally, Entsha Henra was contracted to implement the project, which means that optimal provision is made for the involvement of local labour.
Both the provincial team as well as the project manager of the consulting engineers have committed themselves to effective public participation and residents will be informed of the project's progress at all times.
The project team manager Peter Henderson, Keegan de Waal of the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works and Hatch Africa's Craig Bradley and Niel Claassen this week discussed the road upgrade plans with the mayor.
The project team will also join the municipality's weekly Service Monitoring Meeting on Friday mornings.
This week the relevant representatives of the provincial government and the consulting engineers met with the executive mayor, Alderman Dirk Kotzé, and members of the Mayoral Committee to discuss the project implementation plan.
Councillor Anton Dellemijn, the portfolio chairman for Infrastructure Services, will liaise regularly with the implementation team to keep the mayor informed of progress.
The project team has provided for contingencies such as adverse weather conditions that may affect the progress of the construction work and has undertaken to keep the community informed, with effective feedback at all times.
