MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Prepaid electricity meters need to be updated by 24 November.
A Y2K date-rollover issue, affecting these meters, will render them non-functional unless they are updated by this date.
To check whether your meter has been recoded/upgraded to Key Revision Number (KRN) 2 or is still on KRN 1, enter the code, 1844 6744 0738 4377 2416, on your prepaid meter’s keypad and follow subsequent instructions.
Alternatively, residents can also, when they next purchase electricity, examine the slip given to them with their TID Code. Towards the bottom of your slip you will see a reference to KRN. If the number after/below KRN is 1 then your meter has NOT been upgraded yet.
If the number after/below KRN is 2 then your meter HAS been upgraded.
Mossel Bay has an update rate of 97.1% of its prepaid electricity meters, but there is an urgent need to reach the 100% mark.
The municipality started its update project in 2019. There is a concern that meters in rented homes and in holiday homes need to be updated.
