Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management Services were fighting an extensive vegetation fire in the Suurvlakte area near Herbertsdale this afternoon, Mossel Bay Municipality said.
Assistance was given by the Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) and the fire was contained at about 19:00, Mossel Bay Municipality noted.
GRDM fire services continued with mopping-up operations while the Mossel Bay firefighting crew made their way to the rubbish transfer station on Louis Fourie Road, across the road from KwaNonqaba and Asla Park, where another fire had broken out.
Heaps of wood chips were burning along the southern and eastern banks of the rubbish transfer station.
Crews will be working through the night to contain the fires, Mossel Bay Municipality stated.
