MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Over 50 litres of alcohol were confiscated from outlets operating without liquor licences during KwaNonqaba Police operations on Friday 1 August.
The outlets were shut down and the operators arrested and fined.
The Southern Cape police’s spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, said the first operation took place in Fikile Street, Asla Park, KwaNonqaba, at noon.
The officers, tipped off by some community members, arrived at the outlet with a search warrant to find the premises being operated as a shebeen, and following a search of it, 48 litres of alcohol were confiscated and a 28-year-old man arrested.
The KwaNonqaba Police Station’s spokesperson, Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp, said the second operation took place in Nyibiba Street in KwaNonqaba at about 20:00.
He said the police found a 34-year-old man selling alcohol without a liquor licence. He was arrested and later fined.
