MOSSEL BAY NEWS - An archery range, Pinky's Archery, at The Pot restaurant in Great Brak, on the R102, opened its doors recently.
It is suitable for children and adults and is also a great family activity.
"This is probably the safest sport available for kids.
It has huge benefits for children's confidence and cognitive abilities," says Kirsten Neethling, the owner of the range.
According to Neethling, strict safety guidelines are in place and archery is "an amazing sport".
Children who don't fit into an athletic sport can do well and achieve great things with archery.
"We can take it from beginner all the way to the Olympics. It's a sport for everyone and it's outside, so there is so much to gain," Neethling said.
For training, the range uses Genesis Archery 20 Pound lefthand and righthand target compound bows.
The range has expanded so it can be registered for competition purposes.
Aunty Pinky, as the children know Neethling, has travelled all over the world as a scuba diving teacher and first aid instructor.
She came to South Africa 17 years ago and fell in love with the country. She started archery as a sport herself and never stopped. She now teaches the children and loves watching them grow more confident in the sport.
Children from as young as six years are welcome. She also teaches children with ADHD, Down syndrome and autism.
Weekdays is class time and on weekends everybody is welcome to use the range for free practices. For more information, contact Neethling (078 213 7132).
