MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Learning to draw facial features can be difficult, but for Mossel Bay artist Lennox Muswerarimwe it is second nature.
This Hillcrest Secondary School learner's talent was discovered by one of his teachers, Nadine Fourie.
Fourie says Lennox, a Grade 9 learner, has been drawing portraits for a long time.
"But no one knew about his talent until one of his friends showed me a sketch that Lennox did of me," says Fourie.
She says she was so impressed with Lennox's work that she bought the art piece from him.
This motivated Lennox to bring more of his artworks to school and without him knowing, he planted a seed.
"I then got the idea of running an art competition at our school so that our undiscovered artists could get some exposure," says Fourie.
She wants learners at Hillcrest to participate in the competition and achieve something outside of the everyday classroom.
The competition is called It's Art Time.
Learners at Hillcrest can decide between drawing, painting and sculpture and they can use any medium.
The categories include portrait, landscape, still life, real-life and religion.
Learners can enter the competition at R10 and Fourie is still in the process of getting sponsors for prizes.
The competition closes on 30 May and of course, Lennox will be one of the contestants.
