MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The settlement agreement for the Tarka land claim was signed by the Mossel Bay acting municipal manager, director: Infrastructure, Dick Naidoo and the regional Land Claims Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lebjane Harry Maphutha at a signing ceremony on 28 September.
The signing took place in the council chambers of the Mossel Bay Municipality in the presence of the acting executive mayor, Alderman Dirk Kotzé, Councillor Mark Furness and Councillor Erica Meyer and officials from the municipality and the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development in finalisation of the land claim.
The Tarka land claim dates back to November 2006, when the Commission on Restitution of Land Rights requested the municipality to release erven in Tarka for restitution purposes.
Subsequent negotiations through the years led to approval being granted for the release and alienation of 36 erven in Tarka in settlement of the Tarka community land claim and the transfer of the erven to the remaining beneficiaries.
The signing took place last week in the council chambers of the Mossel Bay Municipality.
