GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Garden Route currently has 167 active Covid-19 cases per 100 000 of the population compared with 293 a week ago.
Over the past week, 404 new cases were recorded compared with 700 the previous week. This is a 42% decrease.
"The total number of Covid patients at George hospital is decreasing and the critical care unit is 66% full,” said Wouter Jacobs, acting disaster management chief for the district.
“All the district hospitals show a decrease in admissions and are manageable. Some sub-districts are looking to start escalating select services again."
He said planning for the Covid vaccine programme is ongoing.
According to the Western Cape Health Department, 57 Covid-19 deaths were recorded from Sunday 24 January to Sunday 31 January, bringing the total death toll in the district since the outbreak of the pandemic to 1 217.
