MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Students from Mossel Bay Karate Dojo have successfully completed their first grading for 2024.
The grading was carried out over three days at the end of April. For some students, this was their first grading and for others it was their first grading in this dojo.
Sensei Kobus Klue congratulates all the students who attended and put their best foot forward.
During the grading season, the students work to achieve a higher ranking by either receiving the next stripe on their belt or by moving up to the next belt colour.
When a student qualifies for a belt, there are various disciplines within that grade that should be mastered. These are detailed by the stripes you achieve and display on the belt.
The stripe grading gives the student time to truly master and appreciate each technique. It takes tremendous determination, patience and practice to achieve these qualifications in karate.
The senior students will now begin to prepare for their grading on 9 June.
The grading itself is preceded by a a four-hour Gashuku (training camp), a gruelling training session in which the students are required to perform their techniques and katas to a high standard.
These practices are extremely physically demanding on the body and mind.
Once that Gashuku is complete, the students prepare to do their grading.
This approach gives the student the opportunity to truly experience the true intensity of combat, to remain focused even when exhausted and carry out each movement with precision.
