HARTENBOS NEWS - The Mossel Bay Municipality's Hartenbos Wastewater Treatment Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Plant and Microgrid was officially launched on Wednesday 5 November.
Solareff served as the contractor for engineering design, procurement and construction, while Element Consulting Engineers were the electrical consultants on the project.
The project was started in April 2024 and is designed to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to the wastewater treatment facility, even during stage 6 load-shedding.
Under normal conditions, it operates in parallel with the Eskom grid; in the event of grid interruptions, the battery energy storage system takes over, supported by solar generation during daylight hours. Excess solar energy is fed into the municipal grid.
The project was awarded as the top performing project at the Association of Municipal Electricity Utilities Awards.
