MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Soon it will be time for Mossel Bay's very first Soul Fest and many a highlight competes for attention.
To wet the appetite, here are just some of the programme delights.
Largest three-legged pot
Surely the greatest highlight of the Soul Fest will be the world's largest three-legged pot (#760) that will be simmering away as 3 000 meals for the disadvantaged communities in Mossel Bay are being prepared during the festival.
The Pot-aan-die-Prut concert will entertain festival goers, with music legends such as Anton Goosen and Gian Groen performing. They will be joined by the likes of Die Wasgoedlyn - Churchill, Frasier and Nicky Stears and local talent.
Book discussion
Meet Irene Fischer and Irma de Klerk on 13 July when they host lively book discussions to start the festival.
Fischer sustained a brain injury in a car accident in 2009 and was disabled as a result. She wrote a memoir called I am Still Here that chronicles her journey and road to recovery since the accident. Irene's debut novel is also available in Afrikaans, Ek is Nog Hier.
Irma de Klerk and her husband, Sampie, are the inspiration for the movie Vir die Voëls that will be shown at the Monroe Theatre during the festival as part of a film festival showcasing our South African movie talent. Meet this extraordinary couple and hear the story that made it to the big screen.
Commuting
For the duration of the Soul Fest on 13 and 14 July, the Diaz Express will provide free transport to festival goers commuting between Mossel Bay and Great Brak River, providing a hop-on, hop-off service.
A fleet of minibuses will run between Mossel Bay and Great Brak River to transport festival goers between the train stops and the 25 participating restaurants, which will have special offers to celebrate food with soul in Mossel Bay. There will be a park and ride as well as a "dial-a-driver" service to promote responsible drinking among visitors attending the festival.
Taste sensation
Taste Mossel Bay`s local craft beer and gin, not to mention the exquisite local wines. Spend quality time in the company of brewmaster Ampie Kruger. Be sure to pack a shopping basket big enough for local eats and treats to take home.
Coffee, coffee and more coffee will be available for all the coffee snobs. Taste, buy and pair your favourite brews with products from the deli tent.
Relax
Picnic on the lawn with local cheese, bread, biltong and olives as your fare, while the many artists entertain you. Enjoy the view of the bay as an added treat.
Eat and learn
Join fundis Ina Paarman and Renette Vosloo (Ontbytsake chef and Die Rooi Tamatie Storie) for a food demonstration in the food pavilion at the Soul Festival arena at the Old Power Station at Santos Beach.
Local chefs Dale Stevens, Michael Rhoda and Lyle Brinkhuis will join them for great conversations and demonstrations of delectable food.
There will be local suppliers that will sell their deli goods so make sure you bring your shopping basket and a great appetite.
