MOSSEL BAY NEWS - One year ago, a friendship between six dogs living in three different households began to blossom. Today, the group are the best of friends and even have sleepovers once a week.
Mossel Bay Advertiser spoke to the furry friends' owners, Johan Stadler and Pieter Goosen, who live in the same building in Wassung Street, Mossel Bay.
Stadler said he has three dogs of his own, Bessie, Schalkie and Ben. His mother's dog Lolla visits the trio daily and sleeps over on a Saturday. He said Goosen's dogs, Rocky and Red, have been coming to sleepovers, also usually on a Saturday, for a year now.
Friendship
Stadler said it all started just over a year ago.
He said Goosen lives in the apartment above his and whenever he took his dogs across the road to Harry Giddey Park, Red and Rock would stand on the balcony, looking down at them and barking to greet them.
"I decided to approach their owner and ask if I could take Rocky and Red for walks whenever I went out."
He said all the dogs were "very good" and watched his hand gestures before crossing the road.
"It took about six or seven times to get them to follow my gestures, that they couldn't just run across the road, they had to wait. They are all very talkative and playful," he said.
Stadler noted that during the sleepovers, Bessie, Rocky, and Red, the youngest dogs of the six, played together for hours.
"The other three are a bit older, so they are more chilled."
Sleepovers
Goosen said he moved into the apartment about three years ago and that he "hit it off with" Stadler.
"He's a nice guy and the dogs just love him," he said.
"They absolutely look forward to the sleepovers and they even know which day they are going to visit. All the dogs love one another," he said.
