MOSSEL BAY NEWS - KwaNonqaba Police Station Commissioner, Lieutenant-Colonel Virgie Julius, joined the police's Social Crime Office and its Corporate Communications arm in the rural town, Herbertsdale, on Wednesday, 22 March, to undertake a rural safety project to commemorate Human Rights Month.
The KwaNonqaba Police team was joined by other stakeholders which included Community Policing Forums (CPF), the Department of Education, Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), Community Development Workers (CDW), the Mossel Bay Municipality, Child Welfare and the non-governmental organisations, Heart to Heart and Agape Mossel Bay.
Herbertsdale Primary School was identified as a suitable venue and more than 200 learners and staff joined in a silent march against abuse and violation of basic human rights.
As the participants moved through the small community, pamphlets to raise awareness of gender-based violence and general safety were handed out.
