Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Geelbeksvlei Road near Brandwag, where a man in his 70s drowned while crossing a low-level bridge this morning, Tuesday, 23 November, had been closed prior to the fatal incident.
The Mossel Bay Advertiser can confirm that road closure signs were put up on both sides of the low-level bridge on Monday, 22 November, shortly after water levels started to rise.
The signs were put up by Disaster Management.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after 09:00 this morning.
They had to smash the window of the driver's bakkie in order to pull the driver out. He was, however, already dead. Da Gamaskop police have opened an inquest docket. The name of the victim has not yet been released.
At the time that the bakkie became submerged, no road closure signs were visible. It is not known who removed the signs.
