MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A man accused of raping an 11-year-old girl from Asla Park in August made a brief appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court today, 3 October.
The accused, aged 38, from Lesotho, last appeared in court on 14 September for a formal bail application, which was postponed to today.
Mossel Bay Advertiser previously reported that the matter was postponed as the court had to deal with several adjournments of other cases that day.
The man has been in custody since 24 August. The Advertiser also previously reported that, according to the police, the victim's father arrived home at midnight on the night in question and came across the alleged incident.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the man allegedly raped the victim on the family's living room couch.
The state has indicated that bail will be opposed because the suspect does not have the necessary documentation in his possession to be in South Africa and therefore it is feared he could leave the country and not be found.
He is expected to return to court again on 9 October to complete his formal bail application.
