MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Eden Shore Angling community recently gathered in high spirits at an annual prize-giving event at the Mossel Bay Town Hall to celebrate a successful end to their angling season.
The evening highlighted outstanding achievements, dedication and the continued growth of angling in the Garden Route, with three key moments taking centre stage.
One of the most notable recognitions of the evening was the awarding of sportsman of the year to Hendrico Lesch.
Lesch, who comes from a family with a rich angling history, has shown exceptional commitment to this sport.
Following in his father’s footsteps and with the unwavering support of his mother from the very beginning, Lesch has cemented his place within the angling community.
In addition to his award, he was also honoured as one of Eden Shore Angling’s new lifetime members.
Another highlight was the recognition of the Outeniqua Angling Team, who emerged as the season’s overall winners.
Competing in the A league, the team achieved an impressive milestone by securing both the A and B league titles. This marks their second consecutive year of dominance.
The evening also celebrated the Eden Women’s Angling Team, who have been selected to represent the region at the upcoming national championships, which will be hosted in Eden waters next year.

The event was attended by representatives of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), who will be providing funding to support angling in the Garden Route.
Looking ahead, two newly selected development teams were introduced. These teams will compete alongside top-tier anglers in upcoming leagues, providing an opportunity to further develop their skills at a higher level of competition.
Both teams will go on to represent the Eden District at the national championships.
In addition to the major awards, various prizes were handed out during the night, including recognition for the smallest and biggest fish caught during the season.
The prize-giving concluded on a celebratory note.
