GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Three prisoners who escaped from a police vehicle and were re-arrested after a manhunt was launched, escaped by forcefully opening a panel in the roof of the vehicle.
The escape took place on the N2 near Glentana while the prisoners were being transported from Mossel Bay to George late yesterday afternoon, Monday 20 September.
Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, says the prisoners are aged 27 to 30.
He says they were travelling from the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court to the George Correctional Services Centre.
Pojie says the prisoners jumped off the moving vehicle. One of the men was arrested near the N2 shortly after the escape, while the others were arrested in the Hoogekraal area near Glentana later in the evening.
The prisoners are in custody for serious offences including murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
They will now also be charged with escape from lawful custody.
