MOSSEL BAY NEWS - On 17 November World Prematurity Day is observed.
This day puts the focus on pre-term birth and the concerns of pre-term babies and their families worldwide.
According to statistics, approximately 15 million babies are born pre-term each year, accounting for about one in 10 of all babies born worldwide.
On Friday, 22 November, the Mossel Bay Provincial Hospital hosted an event for the mothers whose babies were born pre-term at the hospital.

What made the day particularly special was that one of the many premature babies, born in May 2001, attended the event. Rhodile Shelique Joseph, now 18 years old and attending Sao Bras High School, showed a photograph of her as a newborn premie being held by her mother. At 18 years old, her resemblance to her mom is absolutely striking.
