MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Police have provided the name of the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run accident in Heiderand, Mossel Bay, on Friday night, 23 May.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said Mossel Bay Police opened a culpable homicide docket following the death of Gert Fielies (57) in Essenhout Street.
Fielies was struck by a minibus taxi. The driver of the vehicle, who fled the scene, was still at large, said Spies yesterday, Wednesday 28 May.
The investigating officer in the case is Warrant Officer Francois Pick.
Anyone with information which could lead to the arrest of the suspect may contact Pick (044 606 2830) or Crime Stop (08600 10111).
Spies had told Mossel Bay Advertiser on Saturday that according to information available, the police were summoned to the scene at about 23:15 on Friday, 23 May.
Fielies had multiple injuries and he was declared dead at the scene by paramedics, Spies said.
The owner of the taxi reported the matter to the Mossel Bay Police Station on Saturday.
