MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The annual Point High School Starganza is always an occasion of glitz and glam and this year was no exception.
Held in the school hall on Friday, 21 February, guests showed their support for their favourite of the 20 finalists with their enthusiastic cheers.
The 10 boys and 10 girls were given the opportunity to show off their stage presence and creativity in the categories of casual wear, themed dance and formal wear.
Once the top five boys and girls were announced it was question time, when some of the contestants shone and others faltered under the pressure. A final walk down the catwalk was the top five's last chance to impress the judges before they waited in the wings for their scores to be tallied.
The evening was hosted by actor, producer and songwriter Sean Else, whose songwriting credits include De La Rey by artist Bok van Blerk and who directed the successful film, Platteland. Entertainment was provided by talented singer Mel Botes. You may have heard of Mel before as one of three singers invited to perform at Nelson Mandela's 87th birthday celebrations at Ellis Park in Johannesburg in 2005 or for his performance in the 2005 46664 concert.
The winners of Starganza 2020 were Simoné Koen (Miss Starganza), De La Rey Steyn (Mr Starganza), Danielle Kruger (first princess), Henco Senekal (first prince), Lené van der Gryp, (second princess) and Sheldon Whites (second prince).
Contestants entertained the crowd with their pirate-themed introductory dance.
