MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - David Hoffe proudly puts on his uniform every day to serve customers joyfully at the Mosselbaai Mall, where he works as a security guard.
An employee of the Phangela Group Security company and assigned to Woolworths, David Hoffe has made a name for himself among his colleagues and shoppers since December, as a friendly, considerate man with a great respect for people, both old and young.
"My passion for people comes from my mom. This was how I was brought up," says Hoffe.
Born in George, Hoffe, who struggles to read and write due to dyslexia, has worked as a security guard all his adult life, since the age of 18.
His dad owned a paint shop in George and in 1996 the family moved to Mossel Bay and his parents retired here.
Hoffe's kindness to his fellow citizens is greatly appreciated as people spoil him often with compliments, a cooldrink, sweet treat or something else to eat, Hoffe says.

David St. John Hoffe was born in 1980 in George. Moved to Mossel Bay in about 1994 when his father came here to start a business.
David is a very kind, loyal and a faithful friend. He enjoys helping anyone in need. He is very observant and excellent in security. His wife Candice says he is generous, caring, helpful and lovable.
Achievements:
- In Cub scouts, the Leaping Wolf as well as a link badge and 17 interest badges.
- A naval cadet achieved able seaman, sailed on Umgeni.
- Junior Springbok in kickboxing; 1994 in New York World Competition, was a finalist.
- Stamp collecting; won silver bronze medal 1991, silver medal 1992.
- Surfing; in Dec 1999 he helped to save 7 people caught in a rip ride in Little Brak sea.
- In 2000 he served as a helper to the aged in Jerusalem.
- He trained in security, doing all grades even though dyslexic. He enjoys what he is doing at present and loves people to feel safe and enjoy their shopping at Woolworths.
