MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Sadly, a play park for children in KwaNonqaba, where there are few recreational facilities for children, has had to be barred for use, because "unruly and unsupervised" children using the park, have damaged property.
On a popular Facebook site focusing on Mossel Bay, a photograph of the park was posted with the comment, "What is the point of spending taxpayers' money on this venue and the children can't play there ... for months already."
Mossel Bay Municipality spokesperson Nickey le Roux explained: "The play park was temporarily closed after the businesses in the park complained of the unruly behaviour of the unsupervised children who had damaged the facilities inside the Beehives, including the gym equipment and play facilities."
The KwaNonqaba Beehives is an area where entrepreneurs have small businesses, part of the municipality's economic development programme..
Le Roux said: "Initially, the equipment was cordoned off with tape, but the children removed the tape, and the damage to the equipment continued.
"The tenants reiterated their complaints that their businesses were suffering due to the children's behaviour and that they were losing customers.
"The municipality decided to normalise the situation for the businesses by closing the play park for the time being."
