MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Carina Wiggill is a Mossel Bay resident making strides in her community through her involvement in various charities around town.
She is currently the chairperson of the Mossel Bay Heritage Society and is involved in the Bartolomeu Dias Museum's management committee, as well as a number of community programmes in Mossel Bay.
Tell us a little about yourself - who are you and what do you do?
I'm happily retired to my roots, and I am active in heritage conservation at the museum and St Peter's Parish.
How long have you lived in the Mossel Bay area?
I am from Mossel Bay and part of the third generation living in my street, although I've spent many years in Cape Town and Johannesburg working and with my family.
What is your favourite thing about Mossel Bay?
The sense of community, the sea and the mountains that circle and protect our bay.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In one's old age, every day offers free time to treasure and enjoy with a book or to share with friends.
Who or what has had the biggest influence on your life?
Faith and the example of commitment and humility of my Father.
What are you most proud of in your life?
I am rather thankful for the gift of each blessing of my journey, my marriage and my family.
What is something you would still like to achieve or do?
I would like to help ensure that The Point, our town commonage and Die Poort are again celebrated as the significant spiritual and social spaces they were before.
If you could invite anyone in the world for coffee, who would it be and why?
The British-Iranian journalist, Christiane Amanpour, having reported on all the major conflicts and events of this time. She would be fascinating to meet.
What is one thing you would like to say to the people of Mossel Bay?
In embracing the legacy of our built heritage, we are also keeping the intangible cultural history alive, as the town builds its new future.
