MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEO - At times there was not a dry eye in the house as NSRI Station 15 proudly celebrated 50 years of selflessly serving the community.
What made the event hosted at the Dias Museum on 1 May so memorable apart from the obvious milestone birthday, was the official launch of the NSRI Station 15 Jubilee Book, a collection of true and authentic stories, told by crew members.
The book comprises the antecedents of Station 15, the building and commissioning of the first boat house, the ongoing development of Station 15, rescue and miracle stories and a roll of honour, detailing not only list of past and present crews, but making them come to life through their favourite sayings, prayers, poems and testimonies.
Ian Hamilton, at the event was lauded for being the longest serving NSRI member. He received a 50 years’ service certificate. The Station 15 boathouse is named after this remarkable crew member.

A highlight on the programme was singer Michael Lindt leading the NSRI Station 15 crew in singing Home from the Sea, which they dedicated to the current station commander, André Fraser.
Fraser was a driving force in initiating the compilation of the book. The editorial team, all locals, were under the baton of Dr Jopie Coetzee, retired engineer and author of several books.
