MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Popular radio personality and leader of women, Berenice Kogana-Paulson, has started an NPO called The Myrtle Tree, to help single mothers.
Berenice, a Mossel Bay local, has had a slot on EdenFM for a number of years.
She is active in her church, has a ministry publishing her video interviews with inspiring women on YouTube and she has hosted successful women's events in Mossel Bay.
When deciding on a name for her NPO, she considered that the myrtle tree is a symbol of love and recovery.
Berenice adds: "It grows tall and is used for shade. The wood has a unique pattern and a fragrance is spread when the seeds are crushed."
Berenice notes that the Hebrew name of Esther in the Bible was Hadassah, which means myrtle tree.
"Esther was a rescue to her nation and The Myrtle Tree NPO will be a rescue to single moms," Berenice says.
She quotes a scripture, Nehemiah 8:15: the myrtle tree was used to build shelters.
And she says the NPO "will build on" Isaiah 55:13: "Instead of briers the myrtle will grow."
Berenice explains that briers are thorns, but the myrtle indicates recovery. The Myrtle Tree: A shade for single mothers will be the slogan of the NPO.
The NPO will meet needs via:
- Empowerment (skills development and training)
- Support (help children of single mothers apply for study bursaries)
- Equip (by means of workshops)
- Service (outreach)
- Counselling (holistic)
"Get your name on our database," Berenice urges single moms.
