MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Advertiser, following public interest and several requests from our readership, directed enquiries to the Mossel Bay Municipality regarding the investigation of Advocate Thys Giliomee, the municipal manager.
The following media release received today, 19 May, addresses public concerns.
“The municipality takes note of the public interest regarding the allegations of alleged misconduct against the Mossel Bay municipal manager, Adv Thys Giliomee. The matter is being dealt with in terms of the Disciplinary Regulations for Senior Managers, 2010, which prescribes that an independent investigation must be conducted into the allegations. This investigation is still under way, and, once finalised, the investigation report will be tabled to the council for consideration.
“The regulations entail that any allegation must be brought to the attention of the council. As such, further allegations of misconduct against the municipal manager were considered by the council during a special council meeting on Friday, 14 May, but were found to be insufficient, and further information was requested for the council to consider.
“With due regard to the privacy of the involved parties, the sensitivity of the matter and taking into consideration the rules of natural justice, the municipality cannot divulge any details about the investigation regarding the alleged misconduct or any further allegations as they have not been finalised.
“The municipality reassures the public and the broader community of Mossel Bay that the municipality, as always, strives to be the best and, as such, will continue to provide service delivery to the standard expected. After the council has considered an investigation report on the alleged misconduct, a press release will be issued.”
