MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The police officers from various stations across the greater Mossel Bay area recently formed a soccer team, and travelled down to Knysna yesterday, 10 September, to play against that town’s own police team.
They drew with Knysna, 3-3.
Sergeant Malusi Matiya of the Mossel Bay Police Station and Sergeant Thobani Kumkani of the KwaNonqaba Police Station, part of the newly formed team, said the social game against Knysna was only their sixth match since they formed.
Kumkani said the team was created to fight crime through sports. He said so far, they have also played against the provincial traffic department’s team, a team from the Mossel Bay Municipality and a team from George’s Public Order Policing Unit.
“We want to invite local teams to contact us so we can organise matches against them,” he said.
“I feel regular matches can help unite our communities, build trust and create a sense of camaraderie.”
If you have a soccer team and would like to organise a match against the greater Mossel Bay’s police team, contact Matiya on 078 376 4346 or Kumkani on 073 597 9246.
